How Fake News Affect Students’ Health
This video discusses the impact of mis and disinformation on the health of children and teengers by giving examples from different studies. Students are more exposed to fake news because they spend more time online, because they share more content without verifying its reliability and because the algorithm of some platforms (like Instagram) are based on visual content, which is more difficult to analyse critically and it is based on creating negative emotions. This especially leads young girls to have body issues and anxiety.
How Fake News Affect Students Grades
In this video we will try to find out the sources of ‘news’ that the students use to find their information and why many students are so gullible when it comes to believing fake news. Then we will discuss the correlation between low critical thinking skills and low grades at school because the same critical thinking skills that should be used in higher ranking cognitive activities are to be used when discriminating and using the online information. Whether in class or in the private life, developing critical thinking is core to avoiding fake news and scoring high in academic subjects.
